Agroforestry and Livelihoods

Developing agroforestry systems and locally rooted enterprises that maintain ecological functions and strengthen community livelihoods.

Livelihoods aligned with ecology

This program aims to strengthen community livelihoods through productive land-use systems and enterprises that fit local ecosystems, group capacity, and realistic market opportunities.

Focus areas

  • Participatory site, commodity, and planting-system planning.
  • Zero-burning cultivation, maintenance, and soil and water management.
  • Multipurpose trees, horticulture, non-timber forest products, and product development.
  • Stronger business records, product quality, market networks, and group capacity.

How we work and what we track

Management blocks and planting areas are mapped and connected to planting histories, maintenance records, plant condition, pest and disease observations, and harvests. Monitoring covers the extent and distribution of planting, crop types and condition, maintenance implementation, harvest records, product development, and market access. Household-income data are not published without a clear basis and appropriate consent.

Examples from Yayasan Gambut

Support planned from October 2026 with the Rimba Sejahtera group in Dayun includes pineapple, multipurpose tree, and horticulture management. Learning from other locations includes peatland agroforestry in Sepahat, Temiang, and Tanjung Kuras, as well as zero-burning farming in Penampi.
