Participatory Boundary Mapping in Buruk Bakul
Participatory mapping helps the Buruk Bakul Village Government and residents identify boundaries as a foundation for planning.

Village Law No. 6 of 2014 calls for clearly defined territorial boundaries. Boundary mapping provides an important foundation for village development, helping local government prepare its work plan, particularly on spatial planning.
In 2019, Buruk Bakul Village in Bukit Batu District, Bengkalis Regency, carried out community-led participatory mapping of its boundaries with neighbouring villages. The results were agreed by Buruk Bakul, Bukit Batu and Batang Duku villages, Sungai Pakning urban village, and the Bukit Batu District Head. The mapped administrative area of Buruk Bakul totalled 6,729.73 hectares.
Following the mapping, the village government and residents assessed spatial planning options and the potential for social forestry, aiming to manage degraded areas and protect the village’s remaining forest.
